This message appeared in my inbox this morning. The lake in question is Newboro Lake on the Rideau Waterway, in Eastern Ontario, where there is an active email community keeping track of ice developments and access to the many island cottages.

Shall keep you posted. Saw one of the last boats being pulled from the dock yesterday. Will check the dock out and send pics along perhaps…. Welcome to winter.

Should we start the ice out pool?
The township has shut down the dock security camera and removed the hardware as they are worried someone will steal is like last year. That has to say something.
So Maggie and Rod are our eye on the lake. Send lots of pictures.
